Whether our client is a small independent business or a large multi-site corporation, GLJ Recycling recognizes the need for safe, effective and efficient scrap metal recycling.
Virtually all scrap metal can be recycled into high quality new metal. Given that all metal can be recycled indefinitely without losing any of its properties, the metal recycling process produces metal of the equivalent quality.
Recycling metal protects the environment and saves energy. By using secondary raw materials less natural resources are used, which would have been needed to make new metal components such as iron ore, nickel or alumina. It also results in reduced CO2 emissions and energy savings of up to 95% in the recycling of aluminium, copper, lead, steel and zinc. In addition, recent EU figures indicate that by using recycled raw materials, CO2 emissions have been cut by over 200 million tonnes each year.
There are two main types of scrap metal: ferrous and non-ferrous. Recycling metal involves process of turning these metal into vital secondary raw material for the smelting of new materials.
Ferrous metal is magnetic and includes iron, tin and steel such as certain food packaging and appliances.
Non-ferrous metal includes copper, lead, zinc, steel, electrical cables, brass and aluminium including foil and cans, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, titanium, cobalt, chromium, and precious metals. Non-ferrous metal is not magnetic, and although there is less non-ferrous scrap metal than ferrous scarp metal, it is worth more financially.
We purchase various metals including iron and steel, aluminium, brass, bronze, copper, electrical cable, lead, acid batteries, stainless steel and zinc.
